Elections for the Young People Goodness
The most hoped for nation elections is the elected government’s policies for the young people in their respective countries.
2024 can be an election year for several biggest economic countries such as India, United States, United Kingdom, The Republic of China (Taiwan), Russia, especially for my country, Indonesia.
In Indonesia, general elections will be held by electing the president and vice president, house members, senate members, and local assembly members at the provincial, regency, and city levels. Enthusiasm for these elections is very high because with those elections, we can choose the leaders who are worthy to fill legislative and executive positions in Indonesia.
The most hoped for nation elections is the elected government’s policies for the young people in their respective countries. As one of the young people, of course I want to explain some of the younger people’s hopes with that election.
Firstly, most young people certainly need decent, safe and affordable housing. As you know, property prices around the world were very crazy. The main reason is that reckless property buying has increased, so that it becomes a disadvantage for the younger generation who want to buy a property. When there property is available, the price will be more expensive.
Many buyers argue that they buy a lot of property just because they want to invest it. By doing it, they can easily rent out the property to people who need it (of course with the crazy rental prices) and finally they make a profit from it. For those problems, of course I and all of you hope that with many nations’ general elections in the next year, the next governments will have to eradicate property buyers who are disturbing many young people.
Second, most young people certainly need abundant job opportunities. Because, the unemployment rate in several countries is still quite high. In Indonesia itself, the unemployment rate in 2023 is projected to reach 5.3%. Even though the trend shows a decline since 2021, the unemployment problem should not be taken lightly because it will cause demographic burden problems in the future.
To increase employment opportunities for its people, the next governments must make various efforts such as simplifying investment regulations in their countries, then must provide a good legal certainty to potential investors, and they also must upgrade the human resources quality in their countries.
Third, especially for young people who prefer entrepreneurship, the next governments must also have the courage to provide easy credit to young entrepreneurs, of course with more rational interest rates.
Fourth, the next governments must also provide the best quality education for their people. This is very crucial because by providing good quality education for their people, their country will be able to compete on the global stage.
There are many ways to create the best quality education, including creating a national curriculum which can adapt to the times, then increasing teacher salaries, building educational facilities and best quality infrastructure such as building schools as much as possible, repairing inadequate schools, then building adequate school toilets, etc.
Fifth, the next governments must prepare a best public health policy for their people, such as realizing a social security program for all people, then building health facilities and infrastructure such as building qualified health facilities from the village level, then also improving the quality of the doctors and nurses, and don’t forget to always improve health support facilities.
Sixth, the next governments must also guarantee defense and security in their countries. Because as we know, the world is being hit by various disputes such as the Russia vs. Ukraine war, Israel vs. The Hamas war, and the most hot for the Indonesian people is the South China Sea dispute driven by China.
The Indonesian government itself has repeatedly expressed its objections regarding China’s claim to the North Natuna Sea waters which adjoins the South China Sea, and fortunately the Chinese government finally chose to soften (for a moment) regarding this.
To overcome this security conflicts, the next governments must focus on building the respective country’s defense and security, such as by purchasing the latest defense equipment, then don’t forget to build the defense industry so that their countries is not too dependent on foreign-made defense equipment, then don’t forget to also build a food security.
In essence, the most important thing that young people hope from their next leaders is to be able to solve several problems that are very close to them, such as the job availability problem, the ensuring their entrepreneurship problems, ensuring the education and health quality problem, and their countries defense and security problems.
If there are other problems, they could be secondary and tertiary problems which can only be met if the primary problem can be resolved first.
